String Quartet in 10 – 11 Carlton House Terrace
We've covered a few weddings in the beautiful 10 - 11 Carlton House Terrace. Usually we've provided string trios and string quartets for weddings in this central London gem. It's an exquisite venue which was originally constructed in the late 1820s. This was on land that was previously occupied by Carlton House, the residence of the Prince Regent.
The Roman Classical styled terrace was the vision of architect John Nash for 2 reasons. It provided good views of St James’s Park for residents. And it made a stunning backdrop to both the Royal Park and the Mall.
Nowadays it gets used for weddings, conferences, parties and other events. It's a perfect blank canvas of a space, with stunning rooms and an elegant staircase. One of the lovely weddings that we provided a string quartet for was for one of Rebecca K. Events couples. Rebecca is a brilliant wedding planner whose weddings are always fabulous, as well as being perfectly planned and executed.
Ning and Joey are a delightful couple and we really enjoyed playing for them. In the splendour of the music room, Ning walked up the aisle to Claire de Lune by Debussy. This was an original and romantic choice. Going against the usual convention, they choose to have Pachelbel Canon at the end of the ceremony as they walked out. We think that it's good for couples to feel free to do their own thing and not follow convention. By playing Canon at the end, it meant a nice change from the usual playing for the Entry at the start of the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the string quartet were positioned in a different part of the room for the drinks reception. Here we played less formal music - more like a 'Bridgerton' set with pop, a bit of light jazz and a few theme tunes. This stunning venue has excellent acoustics and is highly elegant. Conveniently positioned in central London, it's going to get your guests talking about how beautiful it is. If it was good enough for the well-heeled of Regency London, then it's good enough for most! Don't take our word for it - have a visit yourself if you're planning an event, and see for yourself.
