liquid strings Turkish singer: Djanan
Born in Turkey, Djanan began singing and discovering her natural
talent from an early age. By the time she was 18, Djanan had started making
her way up north, first moving to Istanbul where she performed in clubs,
bars and festivals. In addition to singing with a rock band, she was part
of a quartet, composed of piano and 3 vocals. The quartet performed a
diverse repertoire from musical theatre pieces to Italian arias. She fell
in love with London when she came for 3 days as a tourist and decided
to move there simply to be a part of the music scene. Within the first
6 months, she started collaborating and writing songs with different musicians
and bands such as Oojami, Group Bazaar, Viktor Mastoridis, and more. At
this time she was also singing jazz and pop covers in and outside London.
She has performed in major London venues like Notting Hill Arts Club,
Islington Carling Academy, Electrowerkz, Albany, and Shunt Vaultz.
She performs constantly, with a repertoire consisting of jazz and swing
standards, as well as Greek and Turkish songs (please listen to the sound
clips of Djanan, above.)
"Many thanks for all your help with organising our 'Turkish' 50th birthday party. Djanan, Musicians and Hannah were fantastic, I have received many compliments about their performances. Djanan's beautiful singing accompanied by the accomplished traditional instrumentalists were a great asset to the ambiance of our party. Hannah's belly dancing was superb, alas my own attempt was less than good even with Hannah's expert guidance!! It was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all. I would have no hesitation in contacting you should we repeat the whole party. Again, many thanks for all your help". Desiree and Clive Cook
liquid strings dancer: Hannah
Hannah first started belly dancing in Japan. She became a founding member of the Samanyolu dance troupe.
They performed throughout Tokyo, most notably in Kervan Serai and Dakini Nights.
She has since returned to the UK and in London continues to perform as a soloist.
Also working with live musicians, her dancing has taken Hannah to Jordan, Morocco, Turkey,
Spain, Portugal, Holland, Belgium and Switzerland. She has danced amongst the desert rocks in Petra,
on a castle wall in Portugal and in a buzzing scarlet-lit nightclub at Midnight.
Through her performing, teaching and learning, in her own words, Hannah 'strives to honour the rich and diverse styles of this beautiful dance'. She specialises in the classical and the experimental; Ambient Oriental, Tribal fusion, Cabaret, Turkish Romani, Whirling and the Sacred.
